It's been over a month since I've posted a new blog. I'm not doing a very good job at posting weekly updates. But, that's ok! We have been extremely busy. The news of the Avian Influenza has kept us extremely busy. We want to make sure that we are doing our best to protect our birds. Our farm has recently been visited by our state vet and checked all of our poultry and gave us the NPIP clearance. We also discussed bio security and types of shelters to help protect our birds. Then, I went to our local Amish farm, and bought lumber and build the shelters. I will try to do an instructional blog on the shelters! All while building these shelters, we have battled off the flu. It's been great fun being sick for quite some time now. We are still recovering from our illness, but for the most part we are doing pretty good now. We also had Emmett's' birthday and Easter! On sunny days we spend the majority of our time outside getting various tasks done and taking in as much fresh air as possible. We had two new goat kids born last month. "Jack" and "Jill" who are both available for purchase. Their birth was super exciting, and it happened on the same day we had the state vet here checking the poultry over. I was over the moon excited that I was able to help deliver both of the kids! "Theo" is also growing like a weed! He is also still available. Our meet birds have arrived, and they are in the brooder in the barn. Soon I will be visiting the Amish again to pick up more lumber to build an outside shelter for these birds. We also have lots going on with the rabbits. Snowball is due next weekend with her second litter. Pebbles is due in 2 weeks with her first litter, which reminds me I need to get a nesting box in with her today. Cookies' kits are ready to come out of their nesting box, they have been exploring their surroundings now for about a week, but I have left the box in with them because the weather at night has been quite cold and snowing still! Garden plans are being made and beds are being prepped. Canning jars are being sorted and washed. I am super excited to start preserving again! I am super excited to start mowing the lawn. That, is my most favorite summer chore. What I am more excited for is that we are planning on fencing in our entire property so our dogs will be able to be out more, and god forbid any of our animals get loose they will at least still be in the secondary fence. Although this should not happen. I'm pretty paranoid about checking my fences daily so everyone stays safe. I hope you've enjoyed the quick update. Have a fantastic day!!
